The story
Grand porches, formal parlors, and Victorian society transplanted to the Northwest frontier — kept running by immigrant hands. Meet the elegant line of houses facing the parade ground.
In front of you stretches Officers' Row, a line of stately homes that tells you how far this post had risen. Vancouver Barracks had become a desirable place for officers and their families, who recreated Victorian high society out here in the Northwest, made possible by the many immigrant workers who shared and ran these homes. Take your time along the row. When you are ready, head west toward the traffic circle, follow the path south past the National Park Service sign, then turn east and stop at the first gray building on your right.
