The reward for the climb: a rim-top perspective over the entire half-mile slot canyon just walked — Upper Falls, the bridges, and the dark brow of Old Man's Cave all readable in a single sweeping look. This short closing stop guides walkers along the rim path back to the trailhead lot, notes the visitor center facilities when the building is open, and hands the day back to the byway for the next leg of the drive. The hemlock canopy below holds the gorge's cool air, and the contrast between rim and canyon floor is part of the show — one final postcard view before the road.
All of it is down there now. From up here on the rim you can read the whole half-mile in one look — the white thread of Upper Falls at the head, the bridges stitched across the slot, the dark brow of the cave halfway along. An hour ago you were inside that picture. Now it fits in a single glance, with the hemlock tops below your boots instead of above your head.
Follow the rim path and it delivers you straight back to the lot. When the visitor center is open, you'll find restrooms and the gift shop inside; either way, your car is just past it.
And don't get too comfortable — the hills aren't done with you. Whichever way the byway carries you from here, the next gorge already has its own story waiting. Back to the car, and I'll see you on the road.
