Back Up The Watershed

The story

Near La Push, the Sol Duc, Bogachiel, and Calawah rivers join to form the Quillayute River, which empties into the Pacific. This convergence creates a major river mouth and estuary where freshwater meets the sea, supporting strong runs of salmon and steelhead and long serving as a center of Quileute life and fishing.

Driving back inland, you're following that gathered water in reverse, the Quillayute splitting back into the separate rivers that fed it. Sol Duck, Bogachiel, Calawah, each peeling off toward its own valley in the mountains. You came out the mouth of a whole watershed. Now you're climbing back up into its branches. Roll on.
