Bubble Pond

Bubble Pond

The story

A small pond below Cadillac Mountain, with a stone bridge that no longer has a job. RVs and trailers can't use the lot.

Off to your right is Bubble Pond, one of the nine Great Ponds inside the park. This stretch of road between Jordan Pond and Eagle Lake went in during the nineteen twenties, after federal money fell through and Rockefeller stepped in. If you stop at the small lot, which tour buses, RVs and trailers can't use, have a look at the stone bridge there. It carries a carriage road over an abandoned stretch of motor road, so it's now a relic with no function, the handsomest thing on the island that does nothing at all.
