The key turn at the Four Corners junction from Panoramic Highway onto Muir Woods Road, beginning the winding descent into the redwood canyon.
Here's the important one, so listen close. Just ahead, Panoramic Highway reaches the junction locals call the Four Corners — and this is where we turn off. Watch for the sign to Muir Woods and turn left, downhill, onto Muir Woods Road. That's a left. If you find yourself still climbing the mountain, you've missed it — so get into position early and take that left onto Muir Woods Road.
The moment you're on it, the whole world changes. The road tips downhill and starts to switchback, and the light goes green and cool as you drop under the canopy. It's a genuinely twisty little descent, so take it slow and use the pullouts if a line builds behind you. In a couple of miles this road delivers us right to the visitor center.
