Franklin — The Eastern Gateway

The story

Franklin, NC (Macon County) — the SE gateway to Moonshiner 28, the Gem Capital, and home of the thousand-year-old Nikwasi Mound. Fuel and food here.

And there's Franklin ahead — the end of Moonshiner 28, and the start of the gem country. You've run the whole sixty miles down from Deals Gap, along the lake and through the Nantahala. Roll into town, fill the tank, get a meal — and if you've got time, go dig for a ruby or stand a minute at the old Nikwasi Mound.

That's our tour of Moonshiner 28. Thank you for riding along with Boone and me — the bootleggers and the outlaw king, the drowned towns and the Road to Nowhere, the mound that came home. If you enjoyed the drive, please leave us a review; it helps other travelers find these tours and helps us keep making them. This has been Ranger Quinn and Ranger Boone Merrick. Welcome to Franklin — and come run the road again.
