Goodbye From the Rangers

The story

The Palm Canyon Trading Post at the head of the canyon — where the trail begins and the whole fan-palm oasis first opens below you. On the tribal land of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.

And here you are — back up at the Trading Post overlook where we began, which means you've done the whole of it: down into the largest fan-palm oasis on earth, and back up out of the desert on your own two feet. Not bad at all.

On behalf of Ranger Boone Merrick and myself, thank you for walking every step of it with us — the water that shouldn't be here, the gate the tribe refused to give up, the palm that loves fire, and the living nation whose home this canyon still is. If you enjoyed the walk, we'd be grateful if you'd take a moment to leave a review — it genuinely helps other travelers find these trails and find their way out into country like this. Get yourself into some shade with cold water, take one last long look down that green canyon, and travel safe. We'll see you on the next trail.
