Oberlin Bend is the last curve below Logan Pass from the west, and one of the park's best places to see mountain goats. A partly wheelchair-accessible metal-grate boardwalk leads to a platform looking along the Garden Wall and the road cut into it.
There's almost no better spot to see mountain goats, and the pull-off is on the outside of this bend, on your side if you're climbing, across oncoming traffic if you're coming down, so only cross with a clear view. If you pulled in, uphill is Logan Pass and downhill is The Loop. In June and July, watch for goat kids. Within days of being born, they follow their mothers up slopes you wouldn't try on a rope. A boardwalk runs about four hundred feet to a platform with as good a view of this road as you'll find, snaking along the Garden Wall. It's metal grate, an idea a former superintendent brought home from Australia, so snow falls through and light reaches the plants below. Stay twenty-five yards back, and if one comes toward you, you do the moving.
