Villa Zorayda — the Moorish Dream

Villa Zorayda — the Moorish Dream

The story

Villa Zorayda on King Street — the fanciful 1883 Moorish-Alhambra winter home of eccentric Bostonian Franklin Smith, whose poured-coquina-concrete experiment launched the whole look of St. Augustine.

So this little villa is the seed of it all. Now turn around and head back east along King Street; the grand building with the towers, across the street on your right, is the old Alcazar — today the Lightner Museum.
