The story
A tall pole in an open field, and one of the loudest statements on the post. What the flag rising over this parade ground announced to everyone watching — near and far.
You are standing at the Flagstaff. On an Army post, the flag was never just a flag. Here it stood as a powerful symbol of American military presence and of a nation expanding west, planted right in the middle of this ground for everyone to see. Picture it rising each morning over the parade. From here, turn east toward the white pavilion to your left, the Bandstand. You can view it from where you are or walk across the grass for a closer look.
