The story
When America's ambitions crossed the Pacific, this post boomed. Big gray barracks like this one bunked waves of soldiers bound for far-off stations. Picture the field at its busiest.
You are at the Double Infantry Barracks. Around the turn of the twentieth century, fueled by American imperial expansion, Vancouver Barracks grew fast. Buildings like this one housed some of the hundreds of new soldiers who trained here before shipping out to posts across the Pacific and into Asia. Stand here and picture the field crowded and busy. When you are ready, continue east along the sidewalk and stop in front of the smaller gray building, the third one from the road.
